Amsterdam Schiphol Airport
The Schiphol Group implemented a multi-application corporate ID card programme for all staff working at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in 2003. Bell ID® Identity Token Manager formed the backbone of a centralized, fully scalable and highly secure solution for issuing and managing ID cards for 80,000 people employed by the company and based at the airport’s premises. The system supports multiple access control systems and it includes iris recognition technology.
The airport authority uses Bell ID® Identity Token Manager to centrally register, produce and manage all of the ID cards, including the on-card applications. Whenever cards are issued or when the status of cards changes (e.g. when lost or stolen), details are automatically communicated to the access control systems. This process ensures that these systems grant access to the appropriate cardholders for the appropriate areas, thus preventing them from granting access to fraudulent holders instantly.
Case Study Snapshot

- Prevent the company from incurring investment costs in replacement of existing technology
- Maximize its return on investment through value added functionalities
- Comply with industrial and technical standards and support all commonly available third party software and hardware products
- Allow card issuers and cardholders to dynamically change, delete or add on-card applications
- Seamlessly integrate with the Schiphol Groups existing hardware and software platforms
- Remain confident that optimum security is in place, thanks to Bell ID® Key Manager which generates, manages and distributes cryptographic keys within the card programme
